MATI – NAZAAR – AYIN HARA – MALOCCHIO – CHAR ATCHK – CHASHM ZAKHM – ZLO OKO – SY I KEQ – AL-AYN
Known by a multitude of names in many cultures, the evil eye is a spiritual concept that represents practices of casting harm & protecting against it.
In Mati Magic, we will explore the cross-cultural history, folklore, beliefs, traditions, and symbolism behind the evil eye. Students will also learn practical ancestral rituals, protective plants, and traditional amulets to prevent and clear the evil eye so that you can keep yourself, your children, and your loved ones safe from harm–especially during these uncertain times.
ABOUT THE COURSE
We will begin our series with an orientation to place, timelines, and the historical context that has shaped evil eye beliefs and practices.
Our classes will center on Greek traditions, as this is my cultural context, with perspectives from other teachers with different backgrounds.
All classes are between 90-120 minutes long (first class is usually the longest) and held online via Zoom. Recorded replays of the classes will be provided in the course home for students, with lifetime access.
Students will also be able to email Myrto with any questions during the class period and beyond.
What’s Included
Mati Magic includes three live classes held on February 9th, 16th, and 23rd starting at 3pm Eastern Time. Classes will be between 90-120 minutes long–recordings will be provided to all participants!

ABOUT your LEAD teacher MYRTO (she/Her)
My Greek maternal family has always guided me spiritually and culturally, shaping my beliefs and understanding of the world. I was raised with a blend of Greek orthodoxy, astrology, coffee cup divination, and the evil eye as a spiritual foundation, disseminated from my Mother, Yiayia, and Theas.
Since I can remember, the evil eye has been an essential symbol of familial protection, prayer, and warning against malevolent forces. Continuing in the lineage of my Greek matriarchs, along with guidance from my patrilineal Jewish heritage, I have been supporting others in building culturally informed protection magic practices for the last twelve years–helping them live more empowered, resilient, and safe lives.
And now, as the mama to a toddler, I have a whole new outlook on the need for protection–especially in our tumultuous modern world! Bringing these teachings to other parents, LGBTQIA+ people, sw*ers, women, and cultural kinfolk is so needed right now–I hope to welcome you into Mati Magic and support you on your journey!

Ani will be joining us for the first Mati Magic class on History and Folklore of the Evil Eye to teach about Armenian traditions.
Sarah Corbett (she/her)
Sarah is a first-generation Bukharian-American and the founder of Rowan + Sage, a small-batch apothecary and online community herb school in Atlanta, GA. Zacchary Powell (he/they)

Often spending time between worlds yet grounded in the practical concerns of his clients, he brings practices regularly shrouded in superfluous complexity back down to earth. In our third Mati Magic class on Rituals for Protection, Zacc will break down where we often find a propensity for evil eye experiences both in the natal chart and in transits as well as discuss the allies we can seek out for assistance, including and especially the fixed star, Deneb Algedi.
